There are several communications terms that look similar at first glance-5G, 5Ghz, and 5Gig. Yet they mean completely different things.
To clear things up for you-and help you – avoid internet mistakes – here are the definitions:
DON'T GET THESE 5G TERMS CONFUSED
5G, in the lingo of cellular providers, means ``5th generation.``
A 5th generation cellular network replaces the previous 4G network. When you see 5G, it refers to the cellular signal. This does NOT mean internet speed.
5GHZ (gigahertz) is a frequency band that comes from your wireless router and broadcasts your internet.
This does NOT mean internet speed.
5GIG (Gigabits per second) is a measurement of internet speed.
This ultra-fast, symmetrical speed is delivered via a fiberoptic network. A 5Gig internet speed is the equivalent of 5,000 Mbps.
